Thank you Jess for putting this together and am looking forward to entering this garden season with you all!

Jessica Welcome to the group!

Donna G Hi Alexsis. I am also from Pennsylvania (Lancaster Co) I love gardening and canning and everything that goes with it. We have a mini greenhouse to start seeds once it is warm enough outside

Alexis Hi Donna! Iā€™m not to far from Lancaster- about 2 and a half hours away near Altoona. I love gardening as well- the canning process not so much lol but love it come winter when I can just pull delicious produce off the shelf 😆😁. Thatā€™s so neat you have a mini greenhouse to starts seeds in - what fun!

Do y'all have what they call "little winters" in your area?

This is what we have in TN

Janalyn I've never heard the term, but in Washington we sometimes have spring-like periods in winter, followed by frost or snow.

Denise Here its during the early to late spring whete it will warm up and them bam! We'll get a frost or even a little bit of snow and then two days later its 80 degrees lol

Donna G We have that in Pa as well

I guess I should introduce myself.
Hi my name is Denise I was born and breed here in Nashville TN,which means Im a unicorn now days lol..
Married with with 2 grown kids..no grand babies yet but there's alway hope.

Been gardening off and on for years. Mostly raised beds and pots.
We live in the city so the soil here is horrible. I grow everything from herbs to veggies ..
This year Im trying potatoes for the first time so wish me luck ..
I also like to dehydrate everything lol. But this year Im going to dip my toes into canning for the first time ..

Thank you Jess for putting this group together.
Looking forward in speaking to everyone!

Jessica Welcome to the group!

Linda My daughter just bought a house in Gallatin. I'm going to help her set up some raised beds because of the soil. Good luck with the potatoes! They are so easy to grow.

Denise Yep..shes north of me.. we live in south Nashville. But we are planning to move to MO. sometime in the future. Nashville has gotten way too big for us and too expensive!

Linda Soooo expensive...I can't do the city life anyway.

Hello everyone! My name is Savannah and Iā€™ve been married for 5 years now with two beautiful boys. One is 3 and my youngest son passed away in March. We are coming up on his first birthday here soon. This will be my second year truly having a garden. Iā€™ve had multiple years of not putting effort into one and seeing what grows after throwing some seed down and neglecting my poor garden. We bought our home this year in Pennsylvania and it sits on 7 acres. We are getting chickens soon and are dedicating ourself to becoming more self reliable. I know I have a lot to learn and Iā€™m excited to be apart of this group! Thank you!

Alexis Hi Savannah, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your precious son. I will be keeping you in my prayers as you approach his birthday.

Hereā€™s to hoping for a good Pennsylvania growing season 😊 and hope your chicken and duck raising is successful 😀

Jessica I am so sorry for your loss 😔

Hi everyone! My name is Shelly. Husband and I have been married since 8/6/10 and have 3 daughters almost 10, and 2. I am from SW Washington state zone 8A. Although Iā€™m at a higher elevation for our state and in a more rural areaā€¦ away from the.craziness of the cities out here. Around 1000 foot elevation. I have been growing for about 15 years, but only my 3rd season on our current property thatā€™s on 10 mostly wooded acres. We use about an acre for the house, yard and garden spaces. Currently have 8 laying hens and a rabbit. We also have a grow room in my garage (easier for me than a green house) that we are expanding currently from two high-pressure sodium lights to four here very soon. I will update with pictures once we get the renovations completed here in the next week or so. In addition to new lights we decided to add in some different type of growing mediums. This will be my first time working with mineral blocks so I am a little intimidated, but also excited. Aside from those new things to come I have started a couple flats of tomatoes (one for sauce/paste and one for fun varieties), a flat of herbs, a flat of flowers and some other random things so far. I am way behind on peppers and eggplants, but such is life. Looking forward to this little community. Thank you to Jessica for sharing this space. Attached is a fun picture of a final harvest of sorts from this past year.

Barbara Hello from a fellow SW Washingtonian. 🖐

Jessica Welcome to the group!!

Hi everyone! I am Alicia from West Tennessee. I am loving seeing how many people are in the TN area! I bought a house last fall so this is actually my first year really attempting a garden. I made excusing while renting apartments but that is gone now! Excited to get started!!

Denise ::waving from Nashville:: born and raised here. Welcome to TN!

Jessica Welcome to the group 🙂

Linda Hi Alicia! West TN girl here too. Hot, humid, and dry is our growing season. You got this!

Hello everyone from West Tn (Jackson). I have been gardening and canning since I was 19 years old and I am now 70 years old. I am called frugal freda because I try to save money and utilize the things I have. I have a small backyard garden now but I grow and can things we need. I love cooking and gardening!

Denise ::waving from Nashville::: my Step Fathernis from Boliver and Median !

Jessica So glad you joined us here!

Linda Hi Lynn! So exciting to see fellow West TN gardeners! I'm in the Martin area. Your years of experience could be of great value to us. I do canning and baking as well. I'm so glad to find like minded people so close.

Hey everyone! I live in central MN on the WI border (zone 4a). I have been gardening for the past 10 years. We have heavy soil so most of our gardening is done in raised beds. We also sell our prpduce at local farmers markets and weekly prodice boxes. Hoping to set up a farm store this summer! So excited to be here ā˜ŗļø

Jessica Welcome to the group!

Hi everyone!! Iā€™m excited to be a part of this group! Iā€™m fairly new to gardening and will be doing mostly contained gardening this year. Iā€™m in zone 6 - northwest Ohio. šŸ˜Š Thank you Jessica!

Tara Hi Angie-Fellow NW Ohioan here. Good to connect! Wishing you great gardening success this year.

Jessica Yay for NW Ohio!!

Hello to yā€™all. Thank you Jessica for starting this very beautiful community site. I especially love the graphic you chose.
My name is GaurÄ«. Weā€™re in the mountains of western NC in zone 7b on 5 gorgeous acres w mountains all around and a bubbling creek running through. Weā€™re just beginning year 3 here. Each year my garden gets bigger and bigger.
Iā€™m excited to have finally finished a long hugelcultur berm & plan to plant all kinds of veggies on it this first season.
Iā€™m trying to figure out some crop rotations to discourage insects which are brutal here.
I also began two vermicomposting bins which Iā€™m sad to say are a bit challenging. I canā€™t quite figure out what Iā€™m doing wrong but the worms arenā€™t completely happy yet.
My question is what have people grown on cattle panel arches? Has anyone grown baby watermelons & cantaloupe?

Jess Hi Gauri! I donā€™t have any answers for you, but Iā€™m in central NC :)

Hailey I have done a variety of cucumbers, luffa, cantelopes and squash! Panels work wonders. We also run our peas and beans along our garden fence to have them climb up.

Shelly Cucumber, Cinderella pumpkins, sugar pie pumpkins, zucchini, buttercup & butternut squash, watermelons (sugar baby and the heavier items need some supportā€”pair of ladies nylons will do) Same with cantaloupe. Grown many vining varieties of beans, nasturtiums look lovely mixed in with the fruits and the pollinators sure like the additions.

Jessica We will be using cattle panel arches for the first tike this year. Hoping to do squash on them.
